What We Do

Scotcash is a not-for-profit, social enterprise and a Community Interest Company (CIC). Founded in January 2007 with help from Glasgow City Council and GHA, our main aim is to provide financial products and services to those who have difficulty accessing mainstream sources, such as banks and building societies.

“Knowing that I’m not paying excess interest is a big weight off my mind, collection through direct debit is less stressful than door-to-door. You worry about the knock at the door... I feel the difference in my purse as well!” - Previous Scotcash Customer

The service we are most well-known for is our Affordable Credit, but we also offer help with basic bank accounts, Credit Union savings accounts and money advice for customers - so as you can see, we are more than just another loans company. Our services are available to anyone living in the United Kingdom. We have outreaches in Inverclyde and Glasgow, along with our main offices in Glasgow and Edinburgh, in order to help customers living in different parts of the country.

What makes Scotcash different is that we provide an ethical lending alternative to home credit, payday lenders and rent-to-own retailers - as all of these can end up very costly. Any profits we make go straight back into the business to enable us to continue providing valuable help and services, so we do not distribute any profits to shareholders or owners. We are not in direct competition with banks and building societies, but instead aim to fill a gap in the market. All situations are taken on an individual basis and we aim to always provide our customers with the best advice and service. We are also a member of Responsible Finance, the new name of the CDFA (Community Development Finance Association.)

Did You Know...?

Of those interviewed, 100% of first time customers said they would use the service again, and 80% would recommend us to a friend.
