Some of the Key Messages found in report were:

  • There are currently 5,199 Social Enterprises currently operating in Scotland.
  • £1.6bn GVA (Gross Value Added) is the estimated economic contribution of Social Enterprises to Scotland
  • 42% of Scotland's Social Enterprises were formed in the last 10 years.
  • There are 112,409 employees in Scotland's Social Enterprise Sector.

Scotcash CEO Sharon MacPherson said:

As a social enterprise, Scotcash is at the forefront of tackling financial exclusion in Glasgow and has saved residents over £2.5m in interest payments.  This research demonstrates the critical role we, and other social enterprises, have in tackling inequality and contributing to economic growth

The research will give policy-makers a better understanding of how to help grow the business community in Scotland and it will help social enterprises when working with public and private sector partners and the public.
